Popular Apple Analyst, Ming-Chi-Kuo previously in June, claimed that Apple will equip two of its 2020 iPhones with 5G modems but he has updated his prediction and following Apple’s acquisition of Intel’s smartphone modems, Kuo believes Apple is better suited to develop its 5G phones.
Kuo predicts that 5G feature will be Apple’s key buying point in 2020 and the price of Apple phones will start around $250-$350 in second half of 2020, which will force Apple to make 5G available on entry-level devices.
However, he predicts that the first iPhone will feature sub-GHz functionality instead of the faster mmWave technology. This will help Apple to cut costs in its initial rollout of 5G iPhones.
Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly using Qualcomm’s modems in its first batch of 5G iPhones despite the acquisition of Intel chip.
Apple is also working on its newly purchased Intel modems which is reported to release in 2021.
