After rumours have been spread on the internet, Apple finally buys the Intel’s smartphone modem business for $1 billion as the Apple company tries to lessen its dependence on Qualcomm for its hardware.
Meanwhile, over 2,200 Intel employees working on smartphone modems will join Apple and other Intel equipments.
Apple has been using Intel parts in its handsets for a long time and since Apple settled its dispute with Qualcomm, Intel announced to leave the 5G modem business.
Although, Intel will still be able to produce modems for PC and other devices, except smartphones.
Apple will bring in a big modem development team to in-house which will help the company to compete with Qualcomm and for use in iPhones few years on the line.
Isn’t this of course a good plan from Apple?
